FCR History

Formula Challenge was the brain child of Craig Greenwood and Charles Dawson some 15 years ago. The company was born to race and develope the Formula Challenge single seater.

A year later with ten racecars, the entrepreneurs with the help of friends and family created a televised race series featuring the cars. The race series quickly became a favorite with drivers and sponsors alike.

In 2005, the Taupo Motorsport Park was expanded and a business park built. This gave the Formula Challenge team the opportunity to operate a motorsport experience business at the track seven days a week. With the experience rapidly gaining popularity, the race series completed a fourth and final season and was confined to the annuals of history.

Since these exciting beginnings, the experience has been refined and improved to be the finest motorsport experience in New Zealand and now carries the only Qualmark-endorsed motorsport activity.

Formula Challenge now operates a fleet of 25 race cars and provides its exciting experiences across New Zealand for individuals or corporate groups. Formula Challenge provides regular dates at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, 45 minutes South of Auckland, Taupo Motorsport Park, 5 minutes from Taupo CBD and Powerbuilt Raceway Ruapuna 15 minutes outside of Christchurch.
